The last Sunday of July is the day after the 7th International Urban Sketchers Symposium in Manchester finishes, a huge event set to welcome some 500 sketchers from all over the world.
A few delegates have expressed a wish to sketch some “real English countryside” after the Symposium, as a contrast to the urban environment of Manchester. So I thought it would be a good idea to invite them to sketch in Saddleworth, our little bit of Yorkshire in Greater Manchester!
We will gather outside Greenfield Station to meet people arriving by train from Manchester. Good sketching all around, either in the village of Greenfield or a half-mile walk away in Uppermill. The Huddersfield Narrow Canal passes through and it’s a pleasant walk along the towpath to Uppermill, which is a lively village with lots of cafés and tea shops.
The journey by train to Greenfield from Manchester Victoria takes an hour. Trains leave hourly at 13 minutes past the hour (09:13, 10:13, 11:13). Ticket price £4.40 for an off-peak day return.
