The Walt Disney Family Museum celebrates The Big Draw, the world’s largest drawing festival! Our annual, museum-wide family event happens this year on October 8, 2016 and celebrates Walt Disney’s contributions to the world of art and drawing. The 2016 Big Draw theme is “STEAM Powered.” STEAM is an acronym referring to integration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math in education. Walt Disney enthusiastically blended these five subjects areas into the field of animation, from working with sound engineers to create the first cartoon with synchronized sound, to encouraging The Walt Disney Studios’ technician Bill Garity in his development of the Multiplane Camera in 1937. Walt even developed a new department of creatives very much focused on STEAM—Walt Disney Imagineering—to help design and build Disneyland. As we celebrate Walt’s STEAM initiatives, participate in drop-in activities, performances, and ticketed workshops to learn more about how STEAM is a big part of both animation and storytelling.
Of all our inventions for mass communications, picture still speak the most universally understood language.
